    1. Watch Great Documentaries On-line for Free

A list of quality full length documentaries available online without BitTorrent. If you are my mom, it’s perfectly legal and possibly moral to watch these, but you’ll have to watch them on the computer. Let me know what you want to see and I’ll put it on a DVD so you can watch it in the living room. If you’re not my mom, it’s still legal, but you’re on your own for DVDs.

    5. Why Google Should Go Nuclear

Nuclear physicist Robert Bussard gave a presentation at Google in which he claimed to have solved the physics problems of harnessing fusion as an energy source. However, his funding ran out, and he’s looking for a benefactor to allow him to build a working fusor. Instead of funding Bussard, I think Google should fund an F-Prize for fusion. This post explains why. I should have split it into two posts. It got a little long, but I think the 2nd half has some pretty tight reasoning.

    7. The Best High School Graduation Speech Never Given

When Paul Graham was scheduled to give a high school commencement address he asked his friends what they wish they’d been told at that point. The answers were remarkably similar. Unfortunately, the school backed out. He never gave the speech, but he did post it at his site. When you’re done with that one, read every other word at his site. You’ll thank me.

    9. Revopower Gas Powered Bike Wheel

A gas engine for a bike that fits within the spokes of the front wheel. I love it when somebody takes a look at a hard design problem, and says “it would be a lot harder if we put the motor inside the wheel. Let’s do that.” -and then they pull it off spectacularly.

    10. Gary Shilling Thinks Your House Might Be Half Price Next Year

That’s the extreme end of his prediction. He has lots of graphs explaining what’s going on in the housing market. We sold our house at the peak and started renting because I have appeased the investing gods (and I always read crap like this at lunch).

    11. Dongtan – China’s Eco-City

China is building four green cities from the ground up. The first one is located on an island at the mouth of the Yangtze River near Shanghai. I wish we had a US city that needed to be rebuilt at the mouth of a river so we could do something cool like this….

The recommended open source software page gets a lot of traffic too. It’s currently a mess, but there’s some useful stuff there. Cope.
