Software

Free Open Source Software (for Windows) that I currently use:

  • Firefox – Replaces Internet Explorer
  • Open Office – Replaces Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Gaim – Replaces AIM, Windows Messenger, etc.
  • CDex – Audio CD Ripper
  • RSSOwl – Blog Reader/Aggregator

Additional free opensource software recommended by The Simple Dollar. I haven’t used these, but I plan to try them and move them to the other list:

  • Sunbird – Replaces Microsoft Outlook’s calendaring functions
  • Handbrake – Stores DVD Roms on your harddrive for any media player
  • Juice – Organize podcast subscriptions
  • GnuCash – Replaces Microsoft Money or Quicken
